Week 11 - Colors

Analogous Colors

First, I bumped up saturation, then I created a new layer and selected orange as the background color. I went back to the original layer and used the eraser tool at 50% and erased all around the leaves to bring the layer color through but keeping it translucent so the original background can still be seen. The last thing I did was clone over the black and bad spots on the leaves.

I have also included Dragonfly Analogous using analogous colors. This was part of a process I went through for my final project in my Color Theory for Web and Multimedia class at AIO, which I just finished a week ago. The dragonfly is a photograph I took, and then using the gradient tool created the analogous colors. There is just barely visible another layer, the background original layer where I had created my own 3 layered color stripes before using the gradient tool. I also created the border using different transparencies of the same color.

I created a new layer, with the Overlay mode. I went over the grapes with burn tool to make them pop a little more. I then went back to the original layer and went to Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and bumped up the saturation.

I took the photo I used for the LDR, I selected a purple hue from the color picker and adjusted and then applied the gradient tool.

High Dynamic Range

Not too sure about the HDR either. I think I understood it as having to be multiple or at least 3 photos taken at different f/stops, but I am not really comprehending how the photos are combined to get the effect of greater detail in the final composed photo. So what I did was take this photo and used the burn tool to go over the dragonfly body, wings, and shadow at about 30% to bring the details forward.

Again, I am not real sure if I got the LDR right. From what I could gather from the photos on Flickr was this is simply black and white. So I went to Adjustments > Black and White and applied the change.

Week 10 Photoshop Collage

Week 9 Photoshop Photos

Original is posted below as third photo in each series, as well as what I used in Photoshop below each photograph.

Vintage

Cropped tool vertically, then Adjustments - selected Black and White and didn't move sliders. Next created a new Layer, and with the Eye Dropper selected an orange hue and set the opacity to 20%, and used the Rectangle tool over the entire image to get the final image's hue.

Cropped tool horizontally, then Adjustments - selected Black and White and selected Tint- moved the hue slider to violet at 278˚, moved the saturation slider to 46%, and the Blues slider to -167%. Next created a new Layer, and with the Eye Dropper selected an white and set the opacity to 50%, and finally used the Rectangle tool over the entire image to get the final image's hue.

First I created a new Layer, choose the pattern stamp at 100% opacity with the tie dye pattern and covered the entire image on the new layer. Then used the Brush tool and selected my personally made dragonfly stamp design with Mode set at Color burn on the new layer. The last thing I did on the new layer was use the Eraser at 100% opacity to vignette the cat back into the composition.

Seeing Stars

First I created a new Layer, choose the pattern stamp at 100% opacity with the herring bone pattern and covered the entire image on the new layer except for the cat. I left the cat revealed. Then used the Brush tool and selected the star design with Normal mode on the new layer. There was something I had checked but I forgot to write it down and now I can't find it either, but it allowed me to have the different colored stars while using the brush tool. The last thing I did on the new layer was use the Eraser at 100% opacity to created defined outline of the cat, and remove the stars which accidentally landed on the cat as well as some of the herring bone pattern.

Week 6 - Filters

This one I didn't use an actual filter, but did use a 20-40mm wide angle lens. However, I felt the lens acted as a filter, since it let in more light and diffused it compared to #2 where it let in less light. So lenses not only show more or less of a composition but also allow more or less light in too. It almost acts appears as if I had a back light position from a high angle, which is really just a window I have near the peak of the ceiling, but this is seen differently in the other photos.

This one I used a UV filter with my 24-85 mm lens. I also used this lens the following photos too. This one isn't as bright as #1 since this lens isn't a wide angle lens. The light is less diffused. In comparison to the next two it doesn't evoke my emotions too much other than it is nice and is interesting to view, and is it a bit warmer feeling than #1.

This one I used a Polarization filter. It darkened the photo similar to looking through sunglasses. I still like it even though it is a little dark. This gives the photo a somber and subdued look and feeling.

This one I used an Enhancement filter. This one is my favorite, because I like how it intensifies the hue of the pink flowers. It has an overall bright and cheery feeling compared to #3.

Week 5 - Filters

This is the shot without any filters. I thought it would help to have a comparison for all the filter shoots.

The filter used below is a nylon. I think it gives the photos a vintage look.

The filter used below is a dark magenta gel. I wanted red so the green bottle would be very black and the black necklace an even more saturated black, but I couldn't find this gel.

The filter used below is a pool skimmer which has a blue hue, I call it pool blue, and is just slightly noticeable.

The filter used below is a window screen. These are also the only ones with sun because the first ones I took using this filter I didn't like, and when I went back out a little later the clouds had broken up, so it's sort of hard to see, but if compared to the original with no filter there is a slight difference, but I think the sun sort of interferes with being able to see the effect of the filter.

Week 4- Critique

I chose this photo out of all the manual photos because the color was the closest, the lighting was as accurate representation of the overcast afternoon, and the focus was the best. Some had one or another attribute, but I felt this one had all of them.
