Analogous
I was trying to shoot the leaves that were in the trees and was only slightly happy and then as I was walking instead of looking up I looked down at the ground, there were all these leaves. It dawned on me that if I took a few of them, as I did above, I would have an analogous photo. I also had photographed these leaves (same set up) in the grass, but the green of the grass really took away from the leaves colors, so I went with the ones I took on my driveway. I did have one other analogous photo of leaves changing from green to yellow, with the green-yellow in between color, but I like the above photo better. It was hard finding things around my house, but was very pleased when I realized later that I had taken 74 photos, which I had no idea I had taken that many at the time.

Complementary
This is my lone Pansy, that is still in one of my pots that are on my deck railing from the summer. Just when it was about time to empty them for the season, this one popped up, and has been there for quite some time now, and even survived several frosts. I had bought several new varieties this year, one was called fireworks, and I think this was one of them.

Congratulations on finding the violet yellow complimentary combo. I went red green. Almost an easy way out. I'm glad to see that you still have a flower holding on despite all these frost. All of the growth that hangs around the picture below the beautiful colors really adds to the shot. It shows that besides being beautiful your flower is also pretty tough. I also love the leaves shot on the dirt. One color after another from that crazy color wheel. Nice composition.
These are both very beautiful shots. Even though the days are obviously getting shorter and chillier, I love watching the autumn colors coming in. The concrete behind your leaves really bring out their color. And good job finding a flower that naturally has complimentary colors - I had to find a purple flower growing near a patch of yellow.
Having the leaves strategically laying upon each other adds the effect of 'flowing' against a solid neutral back drop - of course the contrast of texture also adds to the interestingness of the picture. The colors in the flower are perfect, nature always seems to offer the most complementary (pun intended) colors! Were you able to post other pictures to flickr? What did you find in relation to lighting and time of day?
The leaves look great and the pansy is beautiful. I'm curious what your green-yellow scheme looked like.
those are just simply beautiful. te colors are very vibrant and clear. i absolutely love the purple the best. and the arrangement of the leaves is even eye catching.
Hi Lisa, I am glad things are working better for you, me also. I really have been struggling,..it's a MAC thang i believe,..we'll get there! I also really am delighted when I look at the beads, they just make me happy, with the light shining through them and all. Maybe it just reminds me of mardi gras!:) I almost missed the little bee in the center if the cosmo,..sweet. The last panst is beautiful,..like it came up looking like a fall flower, just in time!
Wow, these pictures are gorgeous! The way you were able to capture the colors of the leafs and flowers is amazing. The contrast and similarities of the colors make the objects work really well together. Nice job!
I love the leaves, the way you layed one on the other it really catches the eye. The purple pansy is beautiful.

What a neat picture, the poor flower it has been SO cold in the morning I cant believe it still has color!
Thanks everyone for the thoughtful posts. I am always so self-critical of my photos, so it is nice to hear what others think, and it offers that sometimes needed reassurance.
So I am in the process of posting my different lighting situations shortly.
Lone pansy is just great and the leaves shot is really well conceived. Very creative!
